Hunt for the best Vietnamese food outside Vietnam

I’m a big fan of Vietnamese food, and since I haven’t been to Vietnam must settle for what I have tasted as best. In Sydney, there are a couple of Vietnamese suburbs that hosts a lot of their people with grocery stores and restaurants, which kick started my love for Vietnamese food. My dad always used to take us there, especially on a Sunday afternoon after church. He’d always test the authenticity of the food there by their noodle soup stock base and determine how good their food will be.

In Hong Kongit’s quite disappointing as I haven’t found any good Vietnamese noodle soups. But surprisingly in London, there is a couple which is top of my list. Song Que located in Shoreditch is more catered for commercial dinners and big groups etc. With a large variety of choice on their menu from starters, dishes, noodles to rice it can suit the taste of a variety of people.

My other favourite is Café East, which started off in a tiny little corner shop in Surrey Quays for over 20 years. In the last couple of years they have moved to a huge place and last time we went there on a Friday night, we had to wait 8 tables before we got ours. They are more your local, homey restaurant with not so many things to choose from on their menu, but they are good at what they do. I really must praise their soy milk as it is honestly home-made, so super yummy.

What’s the thing with Vietnamese restaurants? You always go home taking the smell of the food with you.
