Peruvian delicacy – Deep fried guinea pig

As gruesome as it sounds, it is actually very tasty.

The meat is pink and very soft.

This particular one was marinated with herbs so it has extra flavour, especially the skin.

Our tour guide said the best part is the head.

I tried it, not too bad at all.

Peruvians only eat this for celebrations but tourists can have it any time!

I did not have the opportunity to ea it when I was in Peru. Must have been out of season.

It must be a cultural thing, but I prefer no exposed cranial appendage when I chargrill a beastie. I did once have igauna- no head attached- and it was delicious.
